Greetings!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been playing Michael Jackson non-stop!  My daughter jumped in the car the other day and said, “Guess what mommy? My friend and I have the same favorite song, Billie Jean!”  Although most of the world is mourning MJ, it warms my heart to see a new generation of children enjoying his great songs, innovative dancing & incredible performances simply because we are reminiscing.

We hope you are enjoying your summer so far.  If you are like most, you have tons of birthday parties and showers to attend (or not).  Avoid running to the big box stores for long lines and boring presents by letting your fingers do the walking.. across your keyboard ;)   Go online or give us a call for a unique Yahzi Rose gift.

    Greetings!

Pull your feet out of the snow (be it virtual or real) and get stepping!  Spring is a time of renewal, new starts and a new attitude.  Amidst the doom & gloom of the newspapers & nightly news there are great things happening everywhere.  If there are children in your household you know that it doesn’t take long for tears or a sad face to change to laughter.  Children have the natural ability to find the good, fun or humor in the very next moment.  This is a lesson that our little ones should sit us down and teach!  No matter what is going on in our lives or the world, there is always something very close to smile at or be thankful for.

2009 has started off well for Yahzi Rose with a record number of online sales!
Thank you, hugs & kisses to our new customers, subscribers, and our loyal little ones.

    ~ Peace & Quiet!  LOL
~ There are wonderful places like Full Plate that offer a week’s worth of prepared home-cooked meals.
~ Can someone say MAID?  A highly recommended Green Housekeeping service would make any mother smile.
~ What about a good old-fashioned date? One that requires absolutely no planning on the mom’s part.  Everything from babysitting to dessert is taken care of.

    YRDecember, 2008

    Dear Kysha,

I love to receive gifts, don’t you?  I also love making or shopping for what I think will bring a smile to someone’s face.   During the holiday season the line between joyfully giving and consumerism is hard to find.  This season, our family is trying to find balance in pleasing our kids, the economic threat, latest & greatest gadgets, what is necessary vs. indulgence, parental guilt, and the need for a little guilty pleasure ;-)    I think what helps darken the dividing line is your intent.  I ask myself, can we afford this, can we get it used, is it wasteful, do they have enough, who am I supporting?  Our children learn best from what we do rather than  what we constantly say.  Let’s make an effort to give gifts based on joy instead of guilt and spend where are dollars will make the most difference.

    Greetings!

    DING, DING!  SCHOOL IS IN!!
Already?  Wow, does the summer go faster as an adult or as a child?

I hope this sunny season has gifted you with warm weather, good friends, screams of laughter as well as blessed silence, and no (or less) stress.  We’ve had a great summer at Yahzi Rose.  Now that its been over a year since our launch (did I mention that we had a birthday?), our shows have brought repeat customers and recognition from strangers.  Folks have walked by our booth and stopped because they remember that someone forwarded them our newsletter or their child received a YR birthday present.  We’ve also been blessed to meet some of the beautiful new babies that received pre-birth or newborn gifts!

Please allow me an inch or 2 to say thank you.  Thanks for every forward of this email, call needing a last-minute gift, referral to a friend, web order, pledged support, kind word, adorable model, blog mention, multiple purchase, encouragement, prayer and counsel.  Yahzi Rose wouldn’t be here without all of these things and we are overflowing with gratitude!

OK, enough with the violins!  We have a bunch of events coming up that promise a great time even if you don’t shop!  And I’m sure those little ones still need another back to school outfit

    Time Out

Is playing just for kids?  We have suggestions that will keep your little ones busy and may even elicit some playful energy and a belly laugh from  you ;)

I’ve been on a quest this summer to come up with things to do with the kids that don’t require a wallet full of cash or a 3-prong plug.  We’re all guilty of it at some time or another, trying to think of a super-creative party, trip, school lunch, gift, etc.  What we fail to realize is, more often than not, the best things are the simple things.  Here are 3 old-as-dirt, around-the-house, sure-fire ways to create laughter & fun

    • Upside-down silly face I bet you forgot all about these!  Draw 2 eyes and a nose on your chin, lay on your back with your head hanging off the bed, cover the top of your head -nose up- with any piece of fabric and exaggerate your mouth when you speak.  Drawing a blank?  Well click here  to see a quick video of my kids in action, lol!
    • Forts & Tents - This is a great time-out after you’ve changed the sheets on your bed.  Pull together some chairs, grab some rubber bands, tuck corners into drawers and imagine those sheets and blankets into a secret hide-out, cave, or dollhouse.  Now have lunch with the whole family (stuffed animals included) in your magical kingdom.
     fort
    • Dance like nobody’s watching - If all else fails, turn on some music, up the volume, grab a small hand and dance the day away!  They’ll enjoy every moment of silliness you both exhibit!

    Dear Kysha,

I’d like to say welcome to our new e-listers and welcome back to our regular family!  I certainly hope Spring has been good to you and Summer holds promise.  We’re not halfway through 2008 and wow, what a year it is shaping up to be.  Don’t miss a great opportunity to engage children in conversations about today’s events.  Their insights on the election, natural disasters and the environment may surprise you.  It also gives us a chance to view the world through their fresh eyes and impart our views and life lessons in a way that doesn’t happen on a day to day basis.

I hope you aren’t letting all the talk about the economy get you down.  I prefer to look at it as an opportunity to not stop spending, but rather spend our money wisely.  And while yes, this is a shameless plug for YR and other Indie designers ;-)  it is also a plea to buy your produce from the local farmer’s market, skip 2 fast food meals and eat at a small family-owned restaurant instead, seek out local contractors as opposed to chains, etc.  In essence, lets watch where our money goes after it leaves our hand.  What do you think?

    And now, without further ado..
We’ve updated the YR website, check it out!

    Going Green

YR is committed to learning sustainable practices in business & daily life. Each month we will include an easy to incorporate tip to assist with Going Green.

Did you know that one sixth of household electricity is used by refrigerators and freezers?  I know, I know, all that yelling about the lights and this is the real culprit!

Here are a few quick fridge tips:

Keep a pitcher of water in your fridge.  Working like an ice pack in a lunch box, the water helps keep your food cold more efficiently.  Also, when tap water sits uncovered for a while, most of the chlorine evaporates.  This leaves you with a healthier thirst-quencher that is easily accessible and much better than soda.

    *  Don’t waste energy, check your temperatures.  Who knows how those dials land on a weird number?  Maybe it was your “father-who-knows-best”, containers shoved into a corner or you guessed it… the kids.  The EPA recommends 37 degrees F for refrigerators and 3 degrees F for freezers.

    *  Don’t overwork the thing!  Over and under-stuffing a fridge will force it to work too hard.  Fill your refrigerator without overcrowding and it will save you money instead.

Check out Thedailygreen.com, we did for these tips!
